Nature Quest
Graphic Design &
UX design
01.
This project involved collaborating with primary school teachers and students to explore local nature and foster community connection. The goal was to help children learn about their environment, document their findings through creative presentations, and contribute to a city-wide nature trail linking multiple schools through shared discovery and storytelling.
The project aimed to showcase children’s creative work while encouraging them to engage with their local environment and community. A tight timeline required fast-paced development, and choosing the right tools was essential to ensure both efficiency and high-quality outcomes.
Role
Graphic design/Project officer/UX designer/ Team of three
This non-profit organisation collaborates with primary schools across the Swansea area, aiming to create impact through lifelong learning and community engagement. The project tasked pupils with exploring nature around their schools and presenting their findings creatively. It began with developing a clear understanding of the brief and creating a brand identity to reflect the project’s values.

Branding
The first phase of the project focused on developing a brand identity that captured its core values, nature, community, learning, and creativity. Designed to resonate with children and their families, the branding aimed to be playful, approachable, and reflective of the natural world the students explored, while also fostering a sense of connection and shared discovery within the community.
E -learning
An online e-learning information pack was developed to support schools by providing clear guidance on the project and their assigned tasks. This resource was designed to help both teachers and pupils gain a better understanding of the project and their roles within it.

Prototype
The next step was to determine the best way to showcase all the school presentations and videos on our website. We then worked on integrating them into the site for an optimal viewing experience. Below are the high-fidelity prototypes.

Wireframe
As the project was to be featured on the Bantani Cymru website, the wireframing stage focused on aligning with the existing brand identity while ensuring a seamless user experience. Key considerations included maintaining visual consistency, incorporating all necessary features, and presenting the children’s work in an engaging and accessible way. The wireframes served as a foundation for structuring content effectively within the site’s framework.
Genially
Genially was utilised to compile all the presentations, incorporating its video and quiz features to enhance the interactive experience.
In the final phase, we were ready to showcase the outcomes of our project. Our team organised an online launch session, inviting all participating primary schools to officially introduce the nature trail experience. We demonstrated how it worked, highlighted key design features, and shared selected presentations to celebrate their creativity and engagement. Below, you can see the final version of the project.

Key takeaways
This was a fast-paced project delivered by a small team of three, working to a tight timeline and with limited resources. It challenged us to prioritise time management and establish early communication and feedback, which proved essential in progressing the work, addressing issues, and finalising tasks efficiently.
One area I would focus on more in future projects is ensuring better mobile compatibility, as some design elements could have been more responsive across devices. There’s also room to further refine certain visual components for improved clarity and impact.
Overall, it was a rewarding experience. I particularly enjoyed collaborating with primary schools and contributing to a project that brought the community together through creativity and design.
